How to Earn Respect the Twitter Way 20th Sep 2009

So we all know that teens are at the cutting edge of technology adoption. Digital natives who choose utility over hype. The connected generation who use technology to improve their lives.

Then came Twitter. And they weren’t too hot on it. Twitter was for older people, business people and geeks.

But then came the pop stars, the film stars and the gossip.

Twitter ingratiated itself as a perfect bolt-on to entertainment culture. Real time networking around popular culture, as it happens.

Suddenly the teens were interested.

My point is simple: Twitter was different, it was a network which should have been the early adoption fodder of the kids, but something went wrong.

To combat this, Twitter has done something amazing, it has EARNED the respect of young people. It’s integrated itself into their entertainment and shown (through example) how it can add something.

We’ll just see whether they stay.
